'Cane country schools teach a lesson in how to defy disadvantage'

The Australian June 1-2, 2013 [page 1 & 6]

An analysis of NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) results conducted for the Weekend Australian by the Grattan Institute shows that among the 1000-odd most disadvantaged schools in the nation, 46 score above the national average in reading, writing and numeracy.

The Weekend Australian has identified the top 20 highest performing socio-economically disadvantaged schools across the Nation (both public and private).  Three Queensland schools made the list, all from Far North Queensland: Miallo State School, Innisfail East and Goondi State School.
